Anna Brown, originally from Nashville, took to TikTok to share the shocking discovery she made during a business trip to Roslyn, New York.

She called the hotel out over its ‘audacity’ before claiming she had ‘never seen anything like it in her life.’

But other social media users were left bitterly divided in the comments.

In the clip, which has so far been viewed more than 290,000 times, Anna set up her camera in the hotel bathroom before launching into her criticism.

‘The audacity of this hotel I’m staying at right now is insane. I’ve never seen anything like this before in my life,’ she began.

The content creator then read a sign that had been left out on the counter, alongside packets of disposable wipes, which stated: ‘Please use the provided wipes for makeup removal.

‘A damage fee of $150 per towel will be charged for each towel found with makeup stains.’

The video then cut to a disgruntled Anna holding the small cloth aloft, explaining: ‘This is the towel in question – it’s a thin, little face towel.

‘This thing could not have cost them more than one dollar – knowing how many they bought.

She concluded: ‘$150 bucks? Oh my gosh. They’d probably add like a tip bar at the end when you get charged for it.’

Anna captioned her video: ‘Have you ever seen this before?!’

But the clip sparked fierce debate in the comments among viewers.

On the one hand, there were those who were just as shocked as Anna.

One person wrote: ‘If their laundry system cannot clean mascara, I am highly concerned about how sanitary my towel is.’

Another person added: ‘That washcloth probably cost them 15 cents. And they’re going to bleach them anyway! Insaneeee.’

A third follower commented: ‘That would be disputed with my credit card company so fast.’

One person comedically wrote: ‘Uhh, I think they forgot the decimal point in $1.50.’

Another follower added: ‘I can’t add hair or makeup stains, yet they can let us sleep on sheets with mystery stains and thin dry towels with fraying ends.’

‘INSANE. Towels are white because they bleach them. And those makeup wipes gave me dermatitis,’ another follower added.

One follower wrote: ‘The best places I’ve stayed at had a black makeup washcloth. Problem solved and I don’t have to use your mystery makeup removal wipe.’

But other commenters were much more sympathetic to the hotel’s policy.

One person wrote: ‘As a former executive housekeeper, make-up stains are incredibly hard to get out and the towels aren’t cheap and they go on back order a lot.’

Another person added: ‘I’ll admit $150 is a bit much. But as a salon owner, towels are expensive and they do stain. So I get charging if they’re ruined.’

‘If you were on the person washing and stain treating those towels, you’d probably understand,’ a third person wrote.

Some followers shared that they don’t use the hotel’s towels at all.

One person wrote: ‘Am I the only one that brings their own face towel? I never use hotel wash cloths for my face.’

Another person added: ‘I learned a long time ago to bring my own of EVERYTHING, towels, sheets, blankets, pillows, everything’ and Anna replied: ‘My away carry-on could never.’
