A savvy shopper has claimed that you can save $250 a month by shopping at Aldi instead of Walmart after showing people on the web a breakdown of her ‘complete price match.’

Most recently, the mom-of-two shocked the internet by revealing the whopping difference between buying your food at Aldi over Walmart. 

In a now viral clip, which has so far amassed over 684,000 views, she compared the cost of her weekly shop at both stores to find which was more budget-friendly.

In the clip, Shauna filmed her receipt before adding overlaid text that read: ‘I always wanted to know exactly how much I save by shopping at Aldi.   

‘So I did a complete price match from Aldi to Walmart. Aldi total: $191.25. Walmart total: $255.85. Difference: $64.60.’

She continued: ‘I grocery shop once a week, that means I save $258.40 a month on groceries, by shopping at Aldi instead of Walmart.’ 

Although the price per item varied just slightly between the two stores, the content creator explained that it all added up in the end. 

She captioned the video: ‘I don’t know about you, but I can think of plenty of things to do with an extra $250.

‘Wow! Thank you for this!’ commented someone else as a fourth gushed: ‘Love Aldi! I’ve been shopping there for years, it’s just so cost effective.’ 

In recent months, consumer food costs have increased substantially due to inflation which remains high and sits at 7.1 per cent – despite a recent decrease.

The soaring cost of living has left many people across the US trying to reduce their spending. 

According to consumer data firm Dunnhumby, one-third of households are skipping meals or reducing their portion sizes to save money. 

Researchers found that 18 per cent of the survey’s 2,000 participants noted they weren’t getting enough food to eat. 

Furthermore, 31 per cent of households have reduced their portion sizes due to empty pantries as a result of rising grocery store prices.

In addition to food costs, millions of people across the country lack a financial safety net.

According to researchers, 64 per cent of participants admitted they wouldn’t be able to raise $400 in an emergency. 

Many have suffered due to inflation, which has caused the prices of basic goods to skyrocket — including the prices of meat and poultry up by 10.4 per cent, cereal up 15.1 per cent, and fruits and vegetables up 8.1 per cent.

Gas prices are another point of pressure for many people around the country, up nearly 60 per cent over the past year, with the cost of airfares up more than 34 per cent and price of used cars up more than seven per cent.

Apparel costs are up by 5.2 per cent, overall shelter costs went up 5.5 per cent and delivery services have gone up 14.4 per cent.

Many people have even turned to living in the car or vans because of inflation with new research suggesting that a six-figure salary can no longer support people like it once used to.
