One couple went on their dream holiday to a Caribbean island but weren’t expecting to rack up more than a £3,000 medical bill and a gruelling eight hour A&E wait abroad.

Two UK-based travel influencers were flown out to Barbados for what they expected to be a free trip – until boyfriend Bartek got so ill that he had to spend the night before his birthday in hospital – and left with a hefty bill.

Travel influencer Bea Martinho, who goes by @kybetravel on TikTok, was jetted out to the beautiful island with her boyfriend Bartek, who is known by @letsmunch – a food influencer, on a PR trip to celebrate his birthday.

Bea gleefully boasted: ‘I downed not one but two green drinks because I’m in my healthy girl era’. She followed this with: ‘We said goodbye to rainy London and got on a plane’.

Upon their arrival, they were greeted with ‘the strongest rum punch’ she’d ever drank and ‘taken to a room bigger than my flat in London’, where the pair were set to enjoy a relaxing holiday.

But trouble arose when soon-to-be birthday boy Bartek’s stomach started to suffer a severe bout of pain – and he ended up in hospital after Pepto Bismol failed to revive him.

She told her 36,000 followers: ‘Just about here is precisely when our trip turned into a nightmare and Bartek had severe stomach pains which we tried to fix but ended up in the hospital’.

In a second clip, Bea explained the pair underwent a sleepless night before driving to the nearest doctor’s clinic at eight in the morning where doctors took his bloods. This cost them £200.

However – things got worse as the clinic’s doctor suspected Bartek had appendicitis – so he was swiftly rushed to urgent care at 9:30am.

‘Here we spent £650 on a CT scan that not only confirmed appendicitis but that he also had kidney stones and a hip fracture. We were transferred to the A&E at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (11am) where we waited eight hours to be seen’.

The influencer added: ‘They did come round to give everyone a little goodie bag which was cute but Bartek wasn’t allowed to eat or drink so I stole his juice box’.

The agonising wait proved pricey, as his surgery and room for the night set him back a whopping £2,642.

Despite the traumatising ordeal, the travel vlogger praised the Barbadian health system where nurses even serenaded Bea after she found out the hospital cafeteria was shut, and took her to a nearby chicken shop.

After his surgery, hospital staff returned Bartek to his room ‘exactly two hours before he turned 27’.

On day four of their PR trip, when Bartek was in his post-operation recovery phase, his girlfriend Bea joked: ‘The nurses made sure he knew he was their favourite – I suspect there was some flirting going on every time I left the room!’

To relax after the nightmare trip the pair ‘took the longest shower ever’ and celebrated Bartek’s 27th birthday with a sit down Japanese meal but the exhaustion meant ‘they were both asleep by 8pm’.
