The incident was caught on camera when one of the store employees took out his camera and filmed the masked robbers red-handed, even trying to scare them away. The bizarre incident took place at a Lululemon store located in Peachtree Corners in the Atlanta metropolitan area last month.

Wearing black hoodies and masks, these thieves were filmed brazenly picking expensive Lululemon sportswear off tables and displays while employees looked on. One of the employees decided to follow the robbers to their cars and filmed their chase before the police arrived.

Although the women try to hinder the robbers and their search for loot with severe reprimands, they do not physically become involved in suppressing the robbers. This was evident as the CEO commented in his recent press appearance that the company prohibits employees from taking any action in such a situation other than reporting to the authorities.

The CEO stuck on his decision to fire employees

The CEO who fired the employees, Jennifer Ferguson and Rachel Rogers, after the incident took a strong stance, saying CNBC, “We have a zero tolerance policy in which we train our educators to get involved during a robbery. Educators” are what Lululemon calls its store workers.”

He continued: “Why? We put the safety of our team and our guests front and center. It’s just merchandise in the end; they are trained to stand back, let the robbery happen and know that there is technology and cameras, and we are working with law enforcement.”

“Unfortunately, in this situation, the educators knowingly broke the policy and engaged with the shoplifters at various points, including following them out of the store, so the subsequent investigation and zero-tolerance policy, which is well known, was which resulted in termination,” the CEO added sternly.

Women claim they have been fired without severance pay

The women, however, claim that they were fired without being given “specific reasons” for their dismissal and even allege that they did not even receive compensation.

The CEO justified his decisions by saying, “We train them to take a step back. It’s about their safety and we take that policy seriously because we’ve had cases, and we’ve seen cases at other retailers, where employees intervene and are injured or, worse yet, killed.

Following the incident and the firing of the employees, the Lululemon CEO is bearing the brunt of the heat online as his decision sparked an uproar as many believed the employees were being treated unfairly.
