An Iowa grandma has gone viral after she told her daughter about an old street slogan for Carnation milk – one not fit for TV,  but proving very popular on social media.

Ninety-six-year-old Helen Ernst appeared in a TikTok video posted by @mamawroe on November 15, and called Carnation milk ‘the best in the land’ – ending with a jingle parents may not want their children to repeat.

‘No t*** to pull, no hay to pitch, just punch two holes in the son of a b****,’ she stated, straight-faced.

TikTok users are still commenting on the month-old video that has gotten more than 17 million views since being posted, and Helen has even received gifts from Carnation since gaining viral stardom.

However, one of the best parts of the story is that the street slogan is, indeed, real.

The street slogan was a popular phrase created in the 1940s by a now anonymous author who was awarded $1,000 by Carnation Milk

The cheeky rhyme dates back to the 1940s, and celebrates the company that was founded by Elbridge Amos Stuart in 1899.

Some commentators have speculated that it was written for an advertising contest sponsored by the evaporated milk brand, though longtime rumors indicated the contest never existed.

However, a brand manager at Carnation Milk has now settled the mystery. Megan – who didn’t mention her surname in a TikTok video on November 20 – confirmed the contest was indeed real.

‘It is a real contest submission that we received in the 1940s,’ she said.

She continued: ‘Believe it or not, it was not selected to be our advertising campaign due to maybe obvious reasons.’

However, everyone at Carnation Milk loved it so much, the company awarded the anonymous submitter $1,000.

Other TikTokers have also heard the rhyme, many of whom say they learned it from their mothers and grandmothers.

A few of the earliest comments were made by people who remembered the ‘son of a b****’ carnation milk street slogan from their parents who’ve passed away.

One user wrote: ‘Omg! my dad used to tell me this and I hadn’t heard it since he passed – made my day!’

‘My dad passed away last October. He used to say this jingle when I was a kid. I couldn’t remember the words. Thank you!,’ wrote another user.

Recent comments written by other TikTokers mentioned hearing about the saying from relatives, but others have written that they ‘love her’ and that she’s ‘a gem.’

‘The commercial we didn’t know we all needed,’ a fan of the video wrote.

The company also surprised Helen by sponsoring her Thanksgiving dinner and awarding her $5,000 – the amount that would be equivalent to the original $1,000 given to the street slogan creator.

There is even ‘Grandma Helen’ merchandise available with bags and T-shirts with the viral 96-year-old on them. Carnation Milk says it will use the proceeds to help repair the sidewalk outside Helen’s home.
