A messy ‘love square’ has erupted among some of Australia’s most glamourous criminals after a drug-trafficking beauty therapist’s fiancé shacked up with one of her law-abiding friends while she was behind bars.

Lash technician Chloe Victoria Smith, 30, is currently serving eight months in jail after being locked up over her involvement in her ex-partner Reece Luscombe’s major meth trafficking ring, which operated in Queensland between 2019 and 2020.

But after moving on from Luscombe while he was in prison, Smith now finds herself in a similar position after her new bad-boy beau, serial offender Wade Amey, 34, ditched her for her close friend and former colleague Caity Phelan, 25.

The drama first unfolded when Smith and Luscombe, 33, were arrested in March 2020 over his ice trafficking network, which was connected to the Finks motorcycle gang and spanned from the Gold Coast to Cairns.

The couple had previously lived an affluent lifestyle in Mackay, Central Queensland, as they drove around in luxury vehicles and dressed in designer goods.

When detectives from Operation Romeo Suitcase swooped on their home, officers seized a Maserati, $108,620 in cash, weapons, and 185.932g of pure meth with a street value of up to $44,000.

Despite Luscombe being remanded in custody and Smith granted bail, the couple initially stayed together for several months as their matters progressed through the courts.

However, cracks soon began to emerge after Smith was busted breaching her bail conditions while spending time with Mackay’s self-dubbed ‘hottest crim’ Liam Dunworth, 24.

The pair was found together in a locked bedroom during a police raid in April 2021 and charged with possessing ice as well as cash from drug sales – offences which would later land him a prison sentence.

The brief romance petered out, and Daily Mail Australia understands Smith went back to Luscombe before the pair separated sometime around mid to late 2022.

But just a few months after their break-up, Smith struck up a relationship with Woodford Correctional Centre inmate Wade Richard Amey, who has an extensive rap sheet for various offences, including drug possession, weapon possession and assault.

In a since-deleted post, Smith revealed the pair met in early 2023 while she was trying to hook him up with her roommate.

‘I was trying to get him to talk to her and she didn’t want a bar of it,’ she said.

‘I felt bad and decided to talk to him over the phone because I didn’t want to be rude.’

The relationship quickly progressed, with Smith announcing the couple’s engagement weeks later, in February.

Just weeks after that, she shared a gushing post with her more than 16,000 TikTok followers, showing her video-calling Amey in prison.

‘Say what you want, but this man is my soulmate and we were made for each other,’ she wrote.

‘I love you so much and cant [sic] wait to be by your side for the rest of my life.’

Amey, a New Zealand citizen, was released from prison late last year and deported back home, while Smith was sentenced in September over the drug ring to three years in jail to be paroled after serving eight months.

But while Smith stayed by Amey’s side while he was in prison, she has not had the same treatment in return – with Smith’s friend Bella Agius this week revealing the Kiwi had jumped ship.

Taking to a Facebook page dedicated to finding pen pals for Australian inmates, Ms Agius said Smith was seeking companionship as she serves out her term at Townsville Women’s Correctional Centre.

When a social media user asked what had happened with Smith and Amey, Ms Agius replied: ‘A sly “friend” of hers is now with him. That’s why [they aren’t together anymore].’

A source familiar with the situation told Daily Mail Australia Amey had started dating Smith’s friend Caity Phelan, another beauty therapist who does not have a criminal record, two weeks ago.

The source said Smith had stuck by Amey during his incarceration and had taken Phelan into her home and given her work at her lash business when she was going through a rough patch.

But Ms Phelan said there was more to the story.

‘Chloe did a lot for me, yes, and I’ll never not acknowledge that because that’s not the type of person I am,’ she told Daily Mail Australia.

‘[But] there’s also a whole lot that Chloe did to me that the whole world doesn’t need to know about… and sometimes the bad overrides the good.

‘Wade and I originally spoke from the beginning so technically no I didn’t take Chloe’s partner, he was from the start trying to pursue something with me.

‘I don’t have any ill intentions towards Chloe by the way things have played out, but I don’t think I could say the same about her.’

Earlier this week, Smith’s Instagram bio featured Amey’s username next to a black heart emoji.

Awkwardly, Ms Phelan’s Instagram bio also features Amey’s username – although for a second Instagram account – alongside a heart emoji.

On Tuesday, Smith’s bio was updated, with Amey’s username removed and replaced by the word ‘single’.

Smith’s downwards spiral into the world of bad boys appears to have started after she became swept up in Luscombe’s nefarious enterprise.

Luscombe, who is the father of Smith’s third and youngest child, ran the syndicate – storing drugs and money at his house while occasionally allowing other members of the ring to facilitate some of the network’s deal.

During his sentencing hearing in March 2022, the court heard Luscombe boasted about the violent and assertive tactics he used while presiding over the drug ring.

They included claiming ownership of the Maserati as repayment for a drug debt and telling Smith he ‘bashed the f***’ out of a woman who owed him money, taking jewellery and her car.

Luscombe was sentenced to nine years in prison over a raft of offences, including trafficking, aggravated drug possession, and possessing cash and weapons.

He was released on parole about October last year.

Smith, who facilitated some of the network’s drug deals, pleaded guilty to a dozen charges including trafficking, aggravated drug possession, supplying dangerous drugs and possessing dangerous drugs and property obtained from trafficking drugs.

The mother of three was sentenced in September to three years in prison, but will be paroled in May 2024 after serving just eight months.

Like Smith, Ms Phelan also has a penchant for criminals.

In September 2022, the mum-of-two opened up to media about how her ex-partner Dayne had gone to prison – but despite the 700km distance, their relationship had grown stronger.

Just a month later, she shared a video on TikTok expressing her attraction to ‘heavily tattooed men with a criminal history’.

Despite initially standing by Dayne, the couple appear to have split sometime in the past 12 months before Ms Phelan was wooed by Amey.

When contacted for comment about his new relationship, Amey did not have much to say – only insults and threats levelled at the reporter.

‘How’s this? Get a life and find something better to do, you f***ing loser,’ he said.

‘Stop writing about me or you will be the next headline of the Daily Mail!’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Smith for comment.
