Home owner posts video of pizza delivery guy complaining about a 25% tip on a $20 order… So how much would YOU tip?
- A Texas woman was cursed out by her Doordash driver for what she felt was an insufficient tip
- A video of the incident posted to TikTok drew sympathetic comments and a general sense of fear around tipping culture.
- In addition to being insulted, the woman was left wondering what a proper tip would have been.
A woman in Texas shared a doorbell camera interaction between her and a pizza delivery guy who was so dissatisfied with her $5 tip that he cursed at her.
In a video posted to her TikTok, Lacey Purciful asked, ‘So how much should I tip for a $20 cake?’ implying that she had given the delivery man a 25 percent tip on a $20 order.
In the video, captured by the family’s Vivint camera, a woman opens the door as her dog runs out to greet the delivery man.
The man, dressed in khaki shorts and a dark T-shirt, removes the pizza box from its protective box and hands it to the woman, who says “thank you.”
The delivery guy then said, ‘You’re welcome, um, I just want to say it’s a nice house for a $5 tip.
The woman, relatively surprised by the man’s comment, said, “You’re welcome,” to which he replied, “Fuck you,” and walked away.

Online viewers of the video, which Purciful posted to his TikTok account, overwhelmingly supported the whistleblower in this case.
Tipping is out of control. 5 out of 20 is more than enough,” wrote one user.
Others encouraged Purciful to contact Doordash, the service he had used for delivery.
Purciful said it contacted the delivery company, which also clarified that it pays a monthly fee, plus any additional service fees.
Purciful added that her husband was extremely upset by what the delivery man had told his wife, noting that the driver could have simply refused the order.
Other online commenters lamented the exorbitantly high cost of receiving anything these days, and how delivery fees are likely driving down tip numbers.
The irate delivery man called out the owners for leaving a tip that he considered insufficient.
As he walked away, the man swore at the woman who was shocked by the exchange.
‘I’m annoyed that my $18 order has an additional service fee and non-tip delivery fee. So when all is said and done with taxes and fees, with my advice my $18 order is now $32-$35. It sucks for workers but these fees are hurting everyone but corporations,” he wrote. a Reddit user.
“I couldn’t believe the last time I tried to deliver, the pizza + tax, then a $2.99 fee and a $4.99 fee, and they said none of those were tips for the driver. It was going to be over $40 for a pizza, a soda, and breadsticks. I ended up driving to another restaurant out of spite,” wrote another.
A third user questioned where the delivery fee goes if not to the driver. ‘What other concocted reason for such a fee could there be?’
