TikTokers are creating lavish proposal-esque gestures to ask their other halves to be their Valentine

If you’re in a relationship, you may think you automatically have a date for Valentine’s Day.

But on TikTok a new trend has arisen that sees people asking their partner to be their Valentine, even if they are already in a committed relationship.

As a result the social media platform has been awash with grand, almost proposal-esque gestures to pop the Valentine’s Day question – and boyfriends who don’t comply are being shamed.

TikTok creators have filmed themselves booking out hotel rooms for their partners which they have filled with roses and buying lavish gifts to secure their Valentine’s Date for February 14.

One video, posted by 21-year-old Harry Pullen showed him filming a very lavish Valentine’s proposal in his car for his girlfriend Talia.

Harry and Talia are both content creators on the platform, with one million followers each.

Harry hid heart-shaped confetti under the car’s sun visor as well as an envelope that said ‘open me’.

He then stuffed fairy lights and chocolate and even a soft toy into the glove compartment, before writing the question on a card with boxes to tick yes or no.

In the video, which has now racked up 6.7 million views, Talia then turned around to find even more gifts waiting for her on the back seat after she said yes.

Harry said: ‘Ask your girlfriend to be your valentine this year, I promise you it’s worth it.’

Talia also posted a video to her own TikTok account, saying: ‘Reminder girls, if he wanted to he would,’ adding that she is the ‘luckiest girl in the world’.

Those in the comments were left in awe of the thoughtful gesture – but others were upset that their own partners hadn’t made the same effort.
