Furious professor unleashes foul-mouthed rant at Woolworths about self-checkout feature: ‘I’ve had a gut’

  • She’s sick of being asked to donate to charity.

A shopper criticized supermarkets for asking her to “round up” her grocery bill to donate to charity at the self-service checkout.

The woman, who calls herself The Recovering Teacher online, took to TikTok to express her anger at “philanthropic extortion.”

“I’m pushing no because I’m simply morally opposed to billion-dollar companies extorting consumers when they just want to buy red grapes and tampons,” he said.

He explained that he has had a hard time being asked if he wants to donate his hard-earned money to the supermarket chain’s non-profit charitable partners.

A teacher was left furious after being asked to “round up” her grocery bill to help those in need.

“This is a message to Woolworths: no, I don’t want my 85-cent refund, what I want is for you, as a multibillion-dollar conglomerate, to start making these donations yourself,” she fumed.

A Woolworths spokesperson defended the company’s fundraising efforts, telling FEMAIL that supporting Australian communities is a priority.

“This is a completely voluntary donation that customers can choose to make or decline, at their own discretion,” the spokesperson said.

But the video of the mother went viral and many people agreed with her.

“I used to feel guilty for saying no, but fuck it, I’m just your average single mom trying to do the best I can,” said one woman.

‘I have been asked twice in the last 2 days. Both times I’ve said no and both times I’ve thought, how about going uptown? another man said.

The Recovering Teacher explained in the comments that she shops at Aldi and farmers markets where she can to avoid donation requests.

Customers also criticized Woolworths competitor Coles.

‘Coles with its 0 food waste program making sure food reaches those who need it; many need food donations because of corporations like Coles’, said one.

And others took aim at the ‘charity vendors’ at the supermarket front, claiming they often earn more per hour than they can get in donations.

One mother said she calculates ’roundings’ and at the end of each year donates to a charity of her choice.

Others criticized the TikToker for complaining about the donation notice and using obscene language.

‘Or you could just ignore it and not spend so much energy getting angry,’ said one woman.

This, and the people criticizing her swearing, led the teacher to make a second video.

He explained that he would be standing next to the first video and called on people who have no problem with the ‘capitalist hell we live in’ to open their eyes.

The Woolworths spokesperson also explained that the rounding-up program runs alongside other philanthropic efforts by the company.

‘Over the last two years, the rounding option has helped raise millions of dollars for our various community partners. We would like to thank our customers for their continued support of these community initiatives and remind them that customers are not required to donate,” they said.
