A flight attendant has revealed the area of a plane that is dirtier than the toilets because it is “never cleaned”.
Brenda Orelus of Miami, who uses Flight Bae B online, said pockets on seat backs are infested with “germs” and don’t get regular maintenance or cleaning, unlike bathrooms.
The glamorous frequent traveler alerted her 98,000 TikTok followers to the alarming development in a video, saying she has seen passengers put everything from discarded food to used tissues to even dirty nappies in their pockets.

Miami flight attendant Brenda Orelus has revealed that seat back pockets are the dirtiest surface on an airplane
The flight attendant said pockets in the back seats are infested with “germs” and don’t get regular maintenance or cleaning unlike bathrooms.
Did you know that seat back pockets are the dirtiest surface on the plane? They’re dirtier than the sinks, they’re dirtier than the seat cushions, and they’re dirtier than the trays,” Brenda said.
It is because they are never cleaned. Unless someone vomits or something sticky and sticky comes out of there, it doesn’t clean up.
The flight attendant said plane cleaners will remove trash and other items from pockets, but not clean them.

“All those germs have built up and there’s no real regular maintenance or cleaning of those surfaces, while bathrooms are regularly cleaned and sanitized,” he said.

Users expressed their displeasure in the comments, with many sharing what they had seen stowed away in seat pockets.
“Usually I put my phone there,” wrote one surprised viewer, and another responded, “Same thing, all the time.” After plugging in the charger, that’s my phone’s safe space.’
‘That is very true! I once saw a parent put a used diaper in the back pocket of the seat,” said a third, and another swore that he would “never touch the pocket again.”
“Passengers will put eaten sunflower seeds, used diapers, tissues, instead of throwing them away,” one user commented.
However, a cleaner chimed in to say this wasn’t always the case and seat pockets are often cleaned after flights.
‘Actually we have two teams for each plane. One takes the trash and vacuums, the other team deep cleans each one,” they said.
Another cleaner agreed, saying that seat pockets will usually be sanitized depending on how much time the team has to clean the plane.
“Usually you get an hour and 30 minutes on the bigger planes, but for fast turns it’s 15 to 30 minutes with a crew of six, you’re not wrong, but you’re not 100 percent right,” they explained.
“It’s supposed to be cleaned up, but people can skip it to convince.”
A former flight he attended also revealed some industry secrets and shared his top five tips for flying.
Kat Kamalani, from Hawaii, took to TikTok to reveal why she never boards a flight without packing her own snacks and always turns down a tea or coffee when traveling.
Number one on her list is to never board a plane without packing a few snacks.
“You never know what’s going to happen,” he said.
Former flight attendant Kat Kamalani, from Hawaii, took to TikTok to reveal the five things she’ll never get caught doing on a flight, after working in the industry for six years.
Kat now lives in Hawaii, where she cares for her daughter and posts on TikTok.
TEN RULES TO LIVE BY TRAVELING ON AN AIRPLANE
- Always wear shoes on the plane.
- never drink hot water
- always carry a blanket
- Always carry a change of clothes
- Always look for nearby airports
- Always carry plenty of snacks
- Bring a face washer
- Always obey your stewardess
- pack your toothpaste
- Never tell the details to your seatmates
He also revealed that he would never drink hot water on a plane, which means tea and coffee are out of the question.
‘The reason is that those water tanks are never cleaned. They are disgusting,’ he said.
“The kettles are cleaned between flights, but all the (coffee) machines are never cleaned… and they are next to the toilets,” he added.
This has been endorsed by the Hunter College NYC Center for Food Policy at the City University of New York, which conducted a study on the ‘drinkability’ of aircraft water.
The study found that seven out of ten airlines did not have good-quality water and recommended that people only drink liquids from a sealed container during flights.
But an airline maintenance person responded to this idea and criticized the hostess for her views.
“Just because you don’t clean the tanks doesn’t mean they’re not done, we do,” he said.
The third thing on Kat’s list is perhaps the most obvious, as the Hawaiian insists that all passengers must “always obey the flight attendants and what they say.”
He also explains that he always looks for hotels, alternative airports and flights whenever he goes on a trip ‘just in case something happens’ and he needs to plan another way home.
His final advice is to never “give away too much information, personal information, to someone sitting next to you and asking about your life.”
Her most popular content focuses on her six years in the sky as a flight attendant.
He also recommends not talking too much with the neighbors in the middle of the flight.
The former host posts about her family life, exotic fruits, and health and wellness videos.
But it’s his travel videos that most often go viral and create the most discussion in the comments.
The latest video prompted other flight crew members to add their own dos and don’ts to the list.
“I always bring my own blanket, it’s very cold there,” said one woman.
“I always have my toothbrush and toothpaste in my carry-on, as well as face and butt wipes,” said one woman.
While others said they like to pack a change of clothes, including underwear, in their carry-on.
“I always buy food in restaurants and I eat when I get on the plane… I see people surround me because the whole plane smells my food,” said another.
Another woman said she winces when people walk on the plane without shoes.
