A company has launched what might be, the UK’s most luxurious sweet treat – a doughnut made with gold.

British doughnut company Project D has crafted a doughnut stuffed with a melted Caramac-like filling and covered in a 24-carat edible gold leaf for Valentines Day.

The doughnut, which is covered in 24-carat edible gold leaf, costs a whopping £29.95 and is only available for delivery on February 13, 14 and 15.

Named the Golden Mega Heart, the dessert measures a foot in diameter and weighs 2.2lbs – the size of a decent toaster.

The pastry has a Belgian white chocolate base and is covered in gold leaf and is filled with a recreation of Nestle’s much adored gold Caramac bar.

Caramac was pulled from markets in November, but now Project D, who run pop ups and stores across the country are letting fans indulge in some sweet-toothed nostalgia.

The doughnut company, which was founded by a group of friends in 2018 claims their Caramac recreation is so good that it could rival the original recipe.

Project D said: ‘Inspired by Bruno Mars’ electrifying lyrics, picture a dazzling heart-shaped treat, gleaming in radiant gold, mirroring the allure of ‘Twenty Four Karat Magic’.

‘It’s enchanting presence promises to elevate your V. Day celebrations.

‘This showstopper is edible gold, not just a measly dusting but we’re talking a full golden armour, a shield of pure opulence.

‘Imagine handing this to the person you j’adore, sharing a moment, sinking your teeth into the fluffy softness of the artisan dough, the molten liquid Caramac centre overflowing with golden crispiness on your lips’.

The treat has a variety of additional chocolate toppings including KitKat, Lion and Malteser and Terry’s Chocolate Orange White bites, plus gold Belgian chocolate callets and caramel crunch balls.

The Golden Mega Heart takes a staggering six hours and can be purchased online but it is only available in ‘very limited numbers’.

It is only available for delivery on February 13-15 but cheaper versions are also available starting from £15.95.

Project D was founded in 2018 by 3 friends who shared a passion and love for food.

Their main inspiration came from the USA’s 24 hour doughnut demand – in New York alone there is a doughnut shop on every block!

Project D have since successfully collaborated with 100’s of companies including – British Airways, Brewdog, Coca-Cola, Amazon, Love Island, and Sainsbury’s.
