However, the shock was two-fold. It was not only that, on the advice of a fortune teller, the boss had changed his own name but was also adamant that his employees follow suit.

The tale of the superstitious boss has gone viral all over mainland China, leaving people huffing and puffing at his unruly demand to get his employees’ names changed or put their jobs at risk.

The man in question is Liu Min, the chairman of Lvdiquan Group, a property developer in Shandong province, located in the eastern part of China. On the advice of feng shui masters and geomancers, Min changed his name. He then forced several mid-level managers at his firm to do the same.

Obviously, the employees had to comply if they wanted to keep their jobs. The names Min and his employees adopted all shared the same pronunciation in Mandarin as their former ones but used different characters from the language, as the fortune tellers promised this change would bring big luck to the company.

The Boss’ Former Name Meant ‘People’ Which Was Changed To ‘Mountain’ In Mandarin

Liu’s former name, which meant ‘People,’ was changed into a character that means “mountain.” However, the pronunciation of his name remained the same. An unidentified employee from the company shared that the boss ordered everyone to address him with his new name only and said that it was already bringing prosperity to the company.

The employee revealed, “He said the master told him adding ‘mountain’ to his name hints he has found a backer. On various occasions, Liu said that after adopting this new name, he had become stronger and the company had grown better and better.”

If an employee uses the boss’ old name in documents or reports, they will get an earful from the boss.
