The schoolgirl described the peculiar medical condition as unexpectedly painful, her body constantly on edge for the next forceful sneeze—even in her dreams throughout the night.

At just 12 years old, the sneezing spells began suddenly for Katelyn as she exited a clarinet lesson at her Texas school. She recalled how it all started with small bursts, gradually intensifying.

Initially, Katelyn assumed it might be an allergic reaction or simply an irritation in her nose, expecting it to subside soon. However, the relentless sneezing persisted. As time went on, the issue escalated, causing her to sneeze up to 20 times a minute—an astonishing 12,000 times a day, amplifying the unusual problem she faced.

She told ABC News, “It was just a few sneezes here and there, but by the time I went to bed, I had sneezed 30 times that night.”

As the weeks passed, Katelyn’s sneezing bouts extended, sometimes lasting up to 15 minutes at a stretch. This relentless cycle made it nearly impossible for her to complete a sentence.

The severity of her condition forced her to halt attending school and ultimately give up playing the clarinet in the band, significantly impacting her daily life. Erika Hodges, her mother, explained, “She can’t really go to school or do anything normal. She can’t eat well; she has to sip. She can’t drink. It’s affected everything.”

Why Did She Experience The Painful Sneezes?

By September 2015, Katelyn had consulted six doctors, all of whom had ruled out allergies or the presence of a virus, leaving them puzzled and unable to pinpoint the cause of her condition.

As of now, eight years later, there hasn’t been any official update on Katelyn’s continuous sneezing.
